According to a report in the Star today Villa want Middlesbrough defender David Wheater and are prepared to pay £7million for him. Trouble is another report, this time in the Sun, says that Boro will put a £9million price tag on the 22-year-old.

The Sun say that Boro will have to have a ‘firesale’ if they go down and that will include Tuncay, Robert Huth and Gary O’Neil. The possible £12million or more sale of Stewart Downing has been scuppered due to his injury which might see him sidelined for 6 months so despite desperately wanting to hold onto Wheater an exit seems possible if the price is right. Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish is quoted as being interested.

Villa and Blues have been linked to 25-year-old Malaga midfielder Antonio Apono who according to the Birmingham Mail is rated at £5million.

As reported earlier, Villa might say no to any moves for Gareth Barry and instead make him see out his contract. Full details: Villa To Play Tough With Gareth Barry?

Celtic apparently want David Moyes as their manager next season. Am I alone in hoping this link is true? Not out of any nastiness or ill will to Everton, just they are very close competitors and Moyes is a top manager, as he has proved once again this season despite his squad being decimated with injuries..!
