To Keep Keeper Or Not To Keep Keeper

Scott Carson has dropped a hint that he’d love to join Villa permanently in the summer but has to stop short of saying so as he is still a contracted Liverpool player!

The on-loan keeper, who has kept both Thomas Sorensen and Stuart Taylor out of contention this season, explains that his move isn’t a ‘done deal’ and that it is just a loan deal until the end of the season although he also adds, ‘any time from now until then they could make it permanent. It’s down to all three parties.’

On where he would like to end up he says he can’t really say because he is contracted to the Anfield outfit but adds, ‘I like it at Aston Villa and I want to get settled for next season. But it’s down to Liverpool, Aston Villa and myself to decide where I ought to be. There’s not a lot I can do. I’ve got three years left at Liverpool and I don’t know what Aston Villa are thinking. I don’t know if there’s anything else in the pipeline, we’ll have to wait.’

What do you reckon, should we be taking him on permanently, do you think he has done enough to impress Martin O’Neill?

Our poll, run on 17 December 2007, asked whether you had been impressed with Scott Carson so far, the results were:

Yes, sign him up (58%)
Not good enough for £10m (29%)
Jury is still out (7%)
He is no more commanding than Sorensen was (3%)
He has been ok (3%)

Another more recent poll asked who you thought would be the first choice keeper next season, only 24% thought it would be Scott Carson.

Guzan, the American we missed in the window (46%)
Other new keeper (27%)
Carson -On a permanent deal (24%)
Carson – On a further loan (1%)
Stuart Taylor (1%)
Thomas Sorenson (1%)
