Manager Tim Sherwood has said that he feels Jordan Veretout will offer us something different next season compared to the midfielders we have at the club already.

With Veretout’s first run out against Nottingham Forest in our last friendly, Sherwood told the Official Site that he had been pretty pleased with the performance of the 22 year old, but he knows he still has a lot to adjust to and a lot of development left to do as a player so he’s somebody who should only get better with time.

‘Jordan gives us something different to the other guys. He’s played a lot of football for someone so young. He’s played a lot of football at a tender age at a good level. We’re really excited about bringing him in. He’s going to take time to settle like everyone else but he’s going to be at a good place. He’s not the finished article but he’s willing to develop.’

As for the development issue, Sherwood goes on to say that all of our new signings have that mentality and they are good ‘learners, listeners’ so far so he’s expecting big things from them once they properly settle into life at the club.

He ended by praising existing midfielder Ashley Westwood, saying that if anybody is looking to replace him at the moment they will have to be a ‘very good player’ because whilst not very showy, he believes Westwood certainly keeps us ticking over during games.

You can only judge so much in pre season friendlies and Idrissa Gueye so far looks lively, so it’ll be interesting to see what Veretout is capable of.
