New assistant manager Ray Wilkins has praised manager Tim Sherwood’s ‘global knowledge’ for the business we have done in the transfer window so far.

With a number of arrivals of what seem at least to be highly rated players from abroad albeit largely unknown by many amongst the claret and blue faithful (or is that just me whose clueless?), Wilkins explained to the Official Site that he felt we had done good work in the market so far this year and he was equally pleased with how our pre season campaign had gone in readiness for the Premier League opener against Bournemouth this Saturday.

‘Tim’s got great knowledge. Working with the academy system at Tottenham, he has a global knowledge of the players out there in Europe. I can assure you the ones we’ve brought in are extremely talented footballers.’

They certainly seem to have the pedigree when you listen to those that do know them, so once they settle hopefully it will bode well for a much better year from us and we can draw a line under the shambles of the last four years in particular.

As for training itself, Wilkins went on to add.

‘We’ve worked very hard on the intensity at which we train and which we will play. The lads have really bought into it. They’ve trained exceptionally well and we’re thrilled with the way pre-season has gone. We want to be far more successful than we have been in the past couple of years. These are exciting times at Aston Villa and we’re looking forward to the new season.’
