Under 23 player James Finnerty has joined Coventry City on trial, according to Coventry Telegraph reporter Andy Turner.

The Irish Under 19 international moved to the Midlands in 2015 from Belvedere FC and has spent the best part of three years in our development squad.

He was promoted from the Under 18s to Under 23s back in July and he has featured in eight Premier League 2 matches so far this campaign.

The 19-year-old generally plays in the centre of defence, but it looks like he hasn’t done enough to earn a new deal at Villa Park.

His current one expires in the summer, and it is likely he has been allowed to go on trial on Coventry so he can win himself a contract with the League Two club.

The Sky Blues are currently in a playoff spot with two games to go, and Finnerty could yet be playing for them in League One next campaign.
