Aton Villa starlet Ashley Young continued his excellent campaign this weekend with a 53-point haul in The Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League, climbing six places in the standings into fifth overall.

The England international posted his best individual match score of the season along with the opening goal in the 2-1 win at Reading on Sunday.

It makes Young the third-highest ranked striker with 438 points, averaging 17 points per appearance for Martin O’Neill’s men.

O’Neill has 10 of his squad in the Actim Index top 100, with Martin Laursen, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Gareth Barry in the current top 25.

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player’s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.
