Villa Can Play Football, I Wonder What Changed – Match Stats

After the shambles that was Christian Purslow’s Steven Gerrard experiment, the events of this week were always inevitable – it was when and not if, and for many of us it should’ve been done weeks, if not months ago as when football breaks for the idiotic Qatar World Cup, we’ll be inundated with Gerrard excuses and with swifter leadership, we’d have been past all that when the lull hit.

In any event, this is where we are and Aaron Danks, along with Big Cuts and the other remaining backroom boys took temporary charge of the side as we welcomed Brentford to Villa Park earlier this Sunday.

With current form and confidence levels, most were hoping to see Danks shake the squad up properly but with Douglas Liuz’s red card rightly being rescinded, he was back in contention as well.

There were a few changes from the norm, but fans will be left wondering if the squad have now sent their own message about our former blameless leader.

Two minutes in Leon Bailey had given us the advantage. Minute seven saw Dany Ings get is first of the day, before making it a brace seven minutes later from the penalty spot, and Ollie Watkins got in on the act just shy of the hour mark to give us a pretty comprehensive (and entertaining!) 4-0 victory.
