PR from one of my best mates and amongst the finest of all Villa fans (this is the man who has been to Old Trafford for something like the last 3000 years waiting for a win as it is the only away ground he’s yet to see us win at!)

URGENT! ROMANIA AWAY – VILLA SUPPORT NEEDED!

Yes amazingly, rather than trekking around foreign football stadiums this summer I will in fact be doing something worthwhile. In June 2007 I will be taking part in a trek to raise funds for Sense International, the only international charity that works exclusively to meet the needs of people who are both deaf and blind in developing countries.

Suitably dressed in a Villa Shirt I will be spreading the gospel by taking part in a 20 miles per day trek for five days through Romania to the former medieval principality of Moldavia (near Moldova) which will be a real test of determination and stamina, as the terrain will be rugged and the trekking demanding. In addition to the physical challenge, I have also pledged to raise £2000 for Sense International’s work with deafblind people and as it’s less than a month to go I need your help now to reach my target.

Why not help people closer to home I hear some of you cry? Well, firstly think about the support networks that exist already here in Britain. Deafblind people in developing countries are among the most isolated of all disabled people in the world. Almost all of them are denied their basic human rights, receiving no support at all and are often rejected by their own communities. Sense International’s aim is to ensure that all deafblind people, wherever they are, have access to advice, opportunities and support that will enable them to exercise their right to be full and active members of society. Secondly your donation can go so much further in the areas that Sense International are reaching out to. For instance: –

£25 could help teach East African parents how to communicate with their deafblind children

£50 could help teach living skills to deafblind young adults in rural communities in India

£100 could provide vocational training for deafblind young adults in Latin America

£1000 could help pay for specialist training for the teachers of deafblind children in Romania

For further information please go to www.senseinternational.org.uk

If you would be prepared to sponsor me in what I believe to be a charity greatly worth supporting then you can either: –

• Go to my justgiving site via the internet – www.justgiving.com/nigelsense

• Send a cheque made payable to ‘Sense International’ to my address below.

In either case, could you please consider Gift Aid (see attached), which means that the Inland Revenue will increase your contribution.

If you are able, your help will be hugely appreciated by myself, by Sense International, but most importantly by the deafblind people – some of whom we will meet – to whom your contribution will make such a difference.

To help publicise the Trek we have arranged a draw for all sponsors of the trek. Corney & Barrow, in association with Veuve Cliquot, have donated two magnum bottles of champagne. Make sure you tick the box to be kept informed on justgiving or let me know if you’re submitting a cheque, as the draw will take place at the end of May before the team sets off for Eastern Europe.

Thanks for reading and don’t worry I’ve already got my tickets for Euro 2008 so I won’t be bothering you again!
