Villa Make It Six With Comfortable Fulham Win – Clear Improvements On Last Year – Match Stats

With three wins on the spin for Aston Villa, our 2020/21 campaign is nicely up and running and tonight’s encounter sees us travel to Craven Cottage – cue plenty of doing a Fulham cracks in the press.

Head coach Dean Smith probably went with the squad we were all expected, but new signing Bertrand Traore was named on the bench.

It was a lovely bright start and four minutes in John McGinn played a lovely ball over the defence to find his fellow Super and Jack made no mistake. 1-0 – game on! Ten odd minutes later it was ‘Dreamland’ as Jack jiggled a bit, McGinn laid it on a plate and Conor Hourihane added his name to the scoresheet.

We’d only played 15 minutes – I’m not used to this!

We couldn’t add to our advantage ahead of the half time break but Ollie Watkins was looking an excellent acquisition – he just needed that bit of luck.

2-0 at the break, what did the second half have in store.

Another goal as it happened, Hourihane with the assist this time and Mings snipped in on minute 48 to make it 3-0.

Shortly after, a huge error by Emi Martinez handed them a goal but bizarrely VAR came to our rescue and scrubbed it out for an offside or a foul. 3-0 it remained.

Fulham did get a little bit more back into it but without really causing us too many problems and we picked up the three points by keeping another clean sheet.

Six points from two games…can’t be bad and clearly we’ve learned a few things from last season.
