With new Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith getting a dream three-point start to life at Villa Park as we hosted Swansea City last weekend, whilst a section of the fanbase were busy criticising players for their efforts on social media, some took the opportunity to spread the praise around.
One of the players who came in for that praise was former Hibernian man John McGinn as many felt that he was back to his more all action performances that we saw earlier on in the season given the perceived recent dip in his own performances in the eyes of some in the middle of the park.
Taking the 1-0 victory on home soil on Saturday, it wasn’t a vintage performance from McGinn as he did only get one shot and one key pass to his name, but he was definitely up there as one of our better performers on the day and he also put a shift in defensively, breaking up play, with a total of six tackles.
McGinn has been brilliant, winning all the 2nd balls & springing us straight on the front foot

No one better at winning the ball back than McGinn

There should still be more to come from the 24-year-old but in terms of becoming a bit of a lynchpin for Smith, he’s done himself no harm at all.
