Villa: Play Half – Get Paid Half

I’ve come up with the solution for Villa.

IF the players carry on playing for just 45 minutes a game, they should be paid half the wages.

What? Seems fair to me. Can you imagine going to work and just doing half a day and then sitting at the desk the rest of the time? Yeah, actually, some of you can imagine that I’m sure?!?!

Sorry though, the showing of this season – just when we thought it wouldn’t get worse than last season – has frankly been pathetic and the Villa players OWE US some decent end of season performances, some blood and guts, SOME GOALS and why not throw in a good measure of BOTTLE AND DESIRE into the mix? Football isn’t that hard a game, you get the ball up to the strikers (along the floor preferably) and they SHOOT the bloody ball.

Phew.

Olof Mellberg has agreed that the team need to show up for both halves and give it some welly.

He said: ‘We have a busy period. We have some winnable games, all of the last seven games, so hopefully we can pick up enough points straight away to be safe. But we need to play well for 90 minutes to win games. It is not enough to have a poor first 45 minutes and play well for the second half. We need to be more consistent within the games. That is definitely something to think about, to try to start a little bit better in the following games.’

The Swedish international bearded wonder added: ‘It is not only the Everton game. There have been a lot of games. Performance-wise you don’t think you’ve had such a bad run. It’s been a strange second half of the season as well. In periods we’ve played a lot of games like at Christmas and then had huge breaks. It has been a strange season. We have put in quite a lot of good performances, including away, and haven’t really come away with anything. We have to try to raise the level a bit over 90 minutes and hopefully get a good run to the end of the season. We have some winnable games and we have to keep going.’

Time to put the words into action, starting at Ewood Park tomorrow.

Sermon over.
