Villa Snatch Defeat From The Jaws Of Victory – Match Stats

With the games coming thick and fast for Aston Villa now given our enforced Covid break the other week, tonight’s action saw us travel to Turf Moor to face what is always a tricky Burnley side.

It seemed quite an open and end to end affair from the start, but Ollie Watkins further boosted his confidence 14 minutes in as he converted a Matt Targett ball to give us the 1-0 advantage. The truth is we should’ve been well clear long before the half time break, but we weren’t and in the second half we paid the price for it.

Seven minutes after the restart Burnley were back on level terms as the thuggish Ben Mee got on the scoresheet but Jack Grealish did restore our advantage with just over 20 minutes remaining in the tie – and then it went wrong.

Two goals in the final 15 minutes from the host sent us to a 3-2 defeat and it really should’ve been a victory for us.

They’ll be plenty of disappointment after that one.
