This looks like another positive step from Villa, as the official site has announced they have laid on buses for a trial ‘Villa special’ service to get fans from Tamworth, Solihull and Redditch on match days.

The official site explains:

Villa Specials will depart from respective train stations two hours before kick-off time. The drop off location will be outside Witton Station. The bus will then collect passengers adjacent to the Holte Pub on Witton Lane 30 minutes after the game and return passengers to Tamworth, Redditch or Solihull (buses will leave on time). The price for a ‘Villa Special’ return is £3.00. Tickets must be pre-booked from Aston Villa consumer sales on 0800 612 0970 (places are limited).

Services are confirmed for the following fixtures:

Everton – Sunday 23rd September 2007 – KO 2.00pm
West Ham United – Saturday 6th October 2007 – KO 3.00pm
Manchester United – Saturday 20th October 2007 – KO 5.15pm
Derby County – Saturday 3rd November 2007 – KO 3.00pm

Good move Villa, lets hope we end up with convoys of buses from all areas!!!

  • What a great idea and surely it will help to reduce traffic congestion on match days, also it will reduce the carbon footprint as well.

  • Its all a smokescreen, just so they can provide a private bus from Redditch for Fear…bloody favouritism.

  • I know I keep saying this but how refreshing is this? You can feel the club reaching out to the fans instead of snatching the fans money and then turning their backs. Thank God we have enlightened souls at the top. Only a matter of time before it clicks on the pitch.

  • It is up to the fans to use the service. If they don’t it will be removed. We can’t fill our ground so it will be interesting to see if we can fill a couple of buses. If not the club can then always turn round and say ” you asked for it, you got it, but threw it back in our face”. Other than our third division days we have often been found wanting when it comes to fan participation.

  • Well when I was a lad there were dozens of Villa park Special buses running from Corporation Street every match day: 3d each way!

  • It was around 67 to 70 mate, 3d is just a bit more than 1p. We used to get off the bus back in Corporation street after the game and the newspaper bloke was already selling the first editions of the Argus on the corner.

  • I’m surprised they weren’t selling the Sunday papers by the time you got back to Corporation Street on the horse drawn carriage.

  • Exceptional idea by the powers that be, another extremely fan-friendly gesture. Hopefully the supporters out in the boonies will use the service, and make it a huge success. Now if they could only instigate a pick up and drop off point outside of our local refreshment establishment, then all would be exceedingly well with the world, particularly if we manage to sign a right full back before midnight Friday.

  • Good thinking Glensider. Now if they can do a bus from Shirley, getting to the Adventurers about two hours before kick off and leaving three hours after final whistle, to go back to Shirley via my local balti house, I might consider using the service myself.
