Zat Knight has told the Birmingham Mail: ‘I have done nothing wrong.’
Following yesterdays events, Zat Knight Arrested Shocker the newly arrived Villa defender explained:
‘The police said they had to bring me to a station, and they were just doing their job, so I co-operated with them – I was in a police cell for about five minutes and no more than that. I got into a police car with them because the area was congested but the police officers were good as gold, and I understand they were just doing their job. I just answered some questions and then the police dropped me at home. I haven’t spoken to the other members of my family about it.’
Meanwhile club spokesman Phil Mepham has also clearly stated:
‘At no point was Zat ever considered to be a suspect but because he was caught up in the inquiry he was, as a matter of course, detained for questioning. His conduct throughout was described by the police as exemplary and no charges were made and none are expected.’
The 27-year-old, who hasn’t had the best of starts to his Villa career following yesterdays baptism of fire added:
‘I just do what I do and am trying to make a career for myself. The fans haven’t got anything to worry about. I’m committed to the club. Whatever has happened has happened and I am just concerned with what I’m doing. I know my career here has got off to a bit of a bad start but I’m happy to be here. Everyone knows I’m an Aston Villa fan. I have spoken to Martin O’Neill about it and he gave me his full support. He realises that I have done nothing wrong. It is a dream move for me and just hasn’t started off very well.’
His 26-year-old brother has appeared at Sutton Coldfield Magistrates court today charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
