Villa Strengthen Again With Key Capture & Everyone Wants More

Well, Aston Villa fans had to wait a little longer than originally anticipated for the official announcement of the arrival of former Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez, but we’ve now finally got the 28-year-old through the door.

A short time ago this morning the Official Site confirmed the arrival of the FA Cup winner and the uncapped Argentine international has signed a four year deal.

Speaking about our most recent capture, head coach Dean Smith explained.

“We are really pleased with the signing of our new goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. We know how highly Arsenal rated him and we watched his outstanding performances last season in a trophy-winning top side. We moved for Emi when we saw the opportunity, as it is rare to be able to buy a top class goalkeeper who hasn’t yet reached their peak age and who can therefore be a key player for our Club for the long term.”

Plenty of fans have already spoken of their delight at his capture following is performances for Mikel Arteta last season and our own poll had 77% perfectly happy with the reported fee, which is in the region of £16million rising to £20million with add ons.

It’s possible Martinez might debut when we face Sheffield United this coming Monday, but Smith may well want to give him a little bit longer to bed in and get used to his new playing colleagues first.

It surely means two are off now though doesn’t it All eyes to Bertrand Traore and possibly Milot Rashica – or will the next one be a surprise?
