Things are looking up for Aston Villa once again as we got ourselves back in the mix for promotion ahead of the March international break and took four wins on the spin to go into the lull in sixth place and now we learn that Conor Hourihane, Jack Grealish and John McGinn are up for the coveted EFL Goal of the Year competition for 2018.

Over the weekend the EFL released the shortlist of ten players that are up for the 2018 gong and the above trio are all in the mix for the trophy.

Hourihane’s effort against Birmingham City back on February 11 has been selected alongside, Grealish’s stunner against Cardiff City on April 11 and McGinn’s absolute pearler against Sheffield Wednesday on September 22.

Other Championship entries are Wolves’ Ruben Neves (Derby April 11), and Wednesday’s Adam Reach (West Brom October 3).

The top five goals will be revealed in the week of April 1, with the winner being announced at the EFL Awards on April 7 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London which hosts the ceremony this year.

Voting closes on Sunday, March 24.

Credit to all on the shortlist in fairness, there are some belting goals in the ten selected but it’s got to be Jack or McGinn really, hasn’t it?
