Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has once again implied that he is being forced out saying Villa are ‘desperate to get ‘shot’ of me.’

He also insists, contrary to reports over the last few days, that his testimonial will go ahead saying ‘It has definitely been promised, that is 100 per cent, so it has got to happen. I have not been told anything to say that it won’t happen, so as far as I’m concerned it is still going ahead.’

‘My agent has been working really hard in the last couple of weeks and the plans look really good.’ Adding ‘But nothing would surprise me because they are desperate to get ‘shot’ of me.’

Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Reading, Watford and Sheffield United, not to mention Dutch giants Ajax, have all been linked to Hendrie who has just one year remaining on his contract. Reports are suggesting he is available for a knock-down price of £500 000 although no firm bids have been made.

He also says that he can understand fans not renewing their season tickets following last years dire home performances, ‘Winning at home is vital in this league and we didn’t do that. The fans are not happy, particularly because over the years I’ve been here we have always given them good home results. We have always had full houses for the big games, and we got to the stage last season where we couldn’t get that. We weren’t consistent. We didn’t do well at all. If the supporters aren’t buying season tickets this season, who can blame them after the season we had? I watched a lot of games from the stands and it was pretty poor.’

Vital Villa asked recently whether David O’Leary should keep Lee Hendrie or allow him to leave in the summer.

A massive 73% said Hendrie should stay UNLESS we get a bid of £2.5million or over for him.

10% said Hendrie shouldn’t be kept and a further 10% voted for the ‘he’s always let us down, what has changed?’ which suggests they also want him to leave!

The remaining 7% said Villa should keep him if we can only get £1million for him, a sum often mentioned in the papers recently.

I guess his future lies in the hands of other clubs, they will have to firm up their interest if they want him and you can guarantee Villa will sell him, or probably anyone else, as we are a selling club!

  • No, they are all bullies, they should leave our lord and master alone,it just isn’t fair. Anyone slating Doug in future will be forced by Vital Admin to write ‘we are not Leeds, we are not Leeds, we are not Leeds’ 100 times.

  • Who said he will have a testimonial ? I hope he has it in writing !
I`m not a keen Hendrie fan, but his position at Villa sums up the team and squad. He is as good, if not better than most midfield players at the club. The question is, is he value for

  • For the paltry amount of 500 thousand quid I’d keep him for the final year of his contract here at B6. We arent going to be able to replace him anywhere near that cheaply, and we need as many bodies around the place as we can possibly get. Twelve months o

  • It depends on how much he’s going to figure this season. If he’s going to be a bit part player, frequently injured, again then that will cost us 800,000 in wages as well. If that 500k transfer fee and 800k wages could be better spent on a nice tas

  • Lee Hendry saved your hinds a few times last season. O’leary will be a fool to let him go.

  • why all this debate about someone who hardly plays ,The calibre of clubs linked with him is a good yardstick of his talent.
