Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has once again implied that he is being forced out saying Villa are ‘desperate to get ‘shot’ of me.’

He also insists, contrary to reports over the last few days, that his testimonial will go ahead saying ‘It has definitely been promised, that is 100 per cent, so it has got to happen. I have not been told anything to say that it won’t happen, so as far as I’m concerned it is still going ahead.’

‘My agent has been working really hard in the last couple of weeks and the plans look really good.’ Adding ‘But nothing would surprise me because they are desperate to get ‘shot’ of me.’

Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Reading, Watford and Sheffield United, not to mention Dutch giants Ajax, have all been linked to Hendrie who has just one year remaining on his contract. Reports are suggesting he is available for a knock-down price of £500 000 although no firm bids have been made.

He also says that he can understand fans not renewing their season tickets following last years dire home performances, ‘Winning at home is vital in this league and we didn’t do that. The fans are not happy, particularly because over the years I’ve been here we have always given them good home results. We have always had full houses for the big games, and we got to the stage last season where we couldn’t get that. We weren’t consistent. We didn’t do well at all. If the supporters aren’t buying season tickets this season, who can blame them after the season we had? I watched a lot of games from the stands and it was pretty poor.’

Vital Villa asked recently whether David O’Leary should keep Lee Hendrie or allow him to leave in the summer.

A massive 73% said Hendrie should stay UNLESS we get a bid of £2.5million or over for him.

10% said Hendrie shouldn’t be kept and a further 10% voted for the ‘he’s always let us down, what has changed?’ which suggests they also want him to leave!

The remaining 7% said Villa should keep him if we can only get £1million for him, a sum often mentioned in the papers recently.

I guess his future lies in the hands of other clubs, they will have to firm up their interest if they want him and you can guarantee Villa will sell him, or probably anyone else, as we are a selling club!
