Aston Villa have confirmed that there will be an official third kit release this season.

Stands to reason, every penny counts doesn’t it. The third strip is a ‘few more weeks down the line’ apparently but the confirmation included the words ‘But, trust us, this one will be worth the wait’ and with current tempers in the fanbase over our lack of financial forward planning, I’m not entirely convinced the club should be making promises because plenty will be ready to bite their heads off as soon as a simple opportunity arises.

Now, I’m a fan of both kits for 2018/19 and I even quite like the goalie strip and the last time goalkeeping strips interested me was when I fit enough to wear and play in one – suffice to say that was a long time ago.

At least on Vital Villa, I think the vast majority are on board with them but there are some clear dissenters given the throwback and the lack of blue sleeves on the home. This has led to some interesting ideas on what possible design we could be facing for the third given there’s a very 80’s vibe on show.

Plenty also wondered what we expected to compete in to need a third strip next year.
