Villa youngsters Gary Cahill, Liam Ridgewell, Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor have all been named in the 30-strong provisional England Under-21 squad for next month’s European Championships.
Former Villa midfielder Peter Whittingham is also named. Shame no Craig Gardner but then again, lets not be greedy eh?!
The 23-man squad will be decided at the end of May with the Under-21 Championship beginning on Sunday June 10 (England v Czech Republic June 11)
Meanwhile Gabby has told the official site, following a sparkling season:
‘My next big challenge is proving I can be a success next season. If you do well in your first season, everyone’s aware of you and in the second season you have to prove yourself again. I’m confident I can prove myself again next season and do even better. I don’t want to be a one-season player who doesn’t keep it going. I know it will be hard and I know I’ve got to keep developing as a player, but I’m ready to work hard to make sure I keep improving.’
Adding: ‘Doing well at Villa means a lot. I’ve got friends and family that support Villa and loads of people in the area I grew up in support Villa. So it means a lot to play here and do well.’
