Villa’s Uefa Cup Hopes Need Win At Bolton

This may be grasping at straws but fuelled by the confidence of recent performances always say you never know.

The fact is that if Spurs can take 5 points from their last 3 games (they still have 3 games left starting at Charlton tomorrow, home to Blackburn on Thursday and home to Man City on Sunday) and if Reading win at Blackburn next Sunday, then they will both guarantee qualifying for the UEFA Cup – providing Villa BEAT Bolton.

From all accounts as I understand it Reading and Spurs are our only rivals at the top of the fair play league and their qualification should leave Villa top of the English fair play league of non-Euro qualifiers and into the lucky 2 out of the hat draw for a UEFA cup place.

So we need to beat Bolton – and cleanly with no nasty red cards. Some fans make think Euro qualification would come too soon for Villa – but I would take it and I guess so would the players – including the ones we might want to tempt here over the Summer.

Anyway, however remote the chance, at least it’s something else to play for next Sunday alongside our battle for 10th place. It makes Villa’s the most important game in the country next week – mind you it always is anyway!
