Vital Villa Summer 2011 Interviews: Villan of the North

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

When I was rescued from the aliens by Dwight York, Mark Bosnic and Dion Dublin (that was one big weapon he was packing), the reason why is obvious, they were all Villa players. (Well it’s a more interesting answer than the one I’ve given for the last 2 years)

2) Alex McLeish? Your opinion please?

When he was at B9 I said that he was too good for them and better than MON. Then again, I was no fan of MON. Now that he’s at Villa I’m less sure, saying that he’s too good for B9 and better than MON does not mean that he’s what I want or expect for Aston Villa. All in all, I have an open mind towards him, he has done and said all the right things so far and if rumour is to be believed he has the squad buzzing and that, surely, is half the managerial battle…….as they say though, the proof of the pudding is in the eating and being a fat git I’m something of an expert on pudding. At the end of the day (standard football cliché there) I’ll back him, like I have done all Villa managers, until he proves himself unworthy of my support.

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

Best – MUTD 1st half performance – simply stunning
Worst – Citeh in the cup

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner?

I think he’s great. I’m a bit disappointed that AM has not been given all the Downing and some of the Young money to spend but I’m not privy to the whys and wherefores. After saying that, I do believe that the one in one out policy we seem to be operating, after the recruitment of N’Zogbia, is based more on the 25 man squad rule and the need to keep wages under control than available transfer funds. If Beye, for example, should leave I would not be surprised to see decent money being paid for his replacement in the squad. Add to this the fact that AM still doesn’t really know the squad and it makes perfect sense that he should address the urgent issues (GK and replacement wide player) and then take his time to motivate, mould and assess the players currently available to him.

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

Me. I’m worse than useless but I’d love the money and I’d be cheep too, I’d sign for £2000 per week. Failing that I’ll leave it to AM but being a bit of a romantic and valuing loyalty more than talent I’d love to see Der Hammer back at Villa. I believe a self motivated player is worth far more than a highly talented mercenary, as evidenced by our own Ian Taylor.

6) (changed question!) Stewart Downing, now he has gone, were Villa right to get shot of him or should they have kept him against his wishes?

He was my favourite player last season and I believed that we should do everything to keep him at the club. All this changed when he handed in a transfer request though, as soon as he did this it became obvious that he could not be motivate properly and it was the club’s job to get the best price possible for him. I think they did OK but maybe could have squeezed a little more out of RedScouse…..ho-hum, them’s the breaks. As for my attitude towards the player, I’m disappointed in him but bare no animosity as at least he didn’t have the cheek to try and force a loyalty bonus out of us.

7) Favourite current player?

As my favourite of last season is no longer at the club I’m a little unsure. Albrighton could be the man to fill this vacancy, let’s see what chances he gets and how he progresses.

8) Favourite all time player/s?

Yorke Yes, THAT game and THOSE comments when joining B9 annoy me but what a player!

Bosnich – simply the best keeper, distribution aside, that I’ve ever seen at VP.

Deano – inconsistent but did things with a football most Prem players can only dream of.

The Viking pairing of Laursen and Melberg – both great ambassadors for the club, both fans of the club and a fantastic defensive pairing.
Savo – he was simply Savo, what more is there to say?

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier Top 8 with a sniff at top 6
FA Cup: Quarters
Carling: Semis

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Should Villa employ American style cheer-leaders?

Not for prancing around as they tend to do but they would certainly improve the scenery – replacements for the stewards perhaps. lol

11) Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Bang? Surely you mean accompany to dinner (don’t call me Shirley). I’m torn between a few so I’ll name them all; Jennifer Love Hewitt, Cathrine Heigl, Scarlett Johanson, Rosario Dawson and Eva Mendes with a special mention for Anne Hathaway.

Thump? I’m not a violent man but if I may be permitted to use the definition of celebrity loosely then Anders Behring Breivik has to be top of the list for more than just a thumping.
