Vital Villa Summer 2011 Interviews: Trekker

How do you do one I hear you cry? Click here and find out! YOUR TURN: The Vital Villa Interviews..

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

From Birth, my dad was born in B6 and started taking me in regularly from 1967. Went through all the pain and glory of the 3rd division and the many false dawns since

2) Alex McLeish? Your opinion please?

My initial reaction remains, huge disappointment and disbelief. I don’t actually care about the Small Heath connection, I just think his record is poor.

I will, however, give him a chance. He has to hit the ground running , or there will be hell to pay.

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

Best is difficult to think of,perhaps Randy Learners reaction to our equaliser at Chelsea, real sincere and genuine. Far too many worst’s, Liverpool away, Man City away and the disgraceful comments from Houlier after both.

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner?

Despite my disappointment about our managers appointment, I still believe he wants us to succeed and isn’t in this for the money, after all, O’Neil wasted best part of £100 million

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

The obvious answers are the spine of the team, a keeper and centre backs, I thought Dunne and Collins were both awful last season, but as for names, I leave that to the ones who play championship manager
I can’t see the reason behind the clamour for ‘Der Hammer’, nice lad, says the right things but is he worth £5 million? I think not. Free transfer yes, automatic first choice no.

6) Stewart Downing, if he really wants out, should Villa refuse to let him go or get shot? (Asked before Downing left)

Let him go, no one is bigger than the club, I cried when Bruce Rioch left, but we are still here.

We are fans, players are employees and they go where they want without a second thought these days, citing ‘ambition’.

I think we all have to realise that our passion isn’t shared by them, and no matter how much we love our club, they simply don’t.

What does upset me is the nauseating rubbish they spout when they go, like Gareth Barry’s letter, ( sorry Gareth, don’t believe you wrote it in a million years but you allowed it to go out)

7) Favourite current player?

No one really floats my boat currently, for me , we lack a focal point to the team, but I like Stilyan Petrov’s commitment, and Marc Albrightons nasty streak!( he does like a little kick)

8) Favourite all time player/s?

Sir Brian Little, Sir Dennis Mortimer, Bruce Rioch, Willie Willie Willie Willie Anderson, Gordon Cowans and Lord McGrath

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier 10th
FA Cup: Quarters
Carling: Quarters

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

I don’t understand this question.

11) Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

I will thump Piers Morgan, repeatedly.

  • Indeed Trekker. When Bruce Rioch departed I thought that my life was over. As you say, we picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves down, and moved on then, we shall do so now. Good read. I found that most enjoyable. Thanks.
