Vital Villa Summer Interview: Callum_ws

Callum_ws steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.

Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?

I’m only 18 so I can’t say I’ve been a Villa fan for decades, but I’d say I was probably around the age of 8-9. I always loved football when I was a kid but I’d say around the age of 8 was when I really got interested in watching and following it, rather than just playing it. I remember watching the F.A cup final in 2000 hoping that Aston Villa would win it, and I think from then on I supported Villa.

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

Good in my opinion, we improved on last season points wise, got into a Final and Semi-final which we were unlucky in and only let Man Utd take 1 point from us, which is always nice.

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

Best – Carling cup Semi-final 2nd leg against Blackburn, it was a great game and the atmosphere inside Villa park was amazing.
And obviously the final has to be one of the best as well.
Worst – There’s the horrific 7-1 loss to Chelsea and the decisions gong against us in the Wembley games. The loss against Man City wasn’t good either as it was the game that ruled us out of the race for 4th.

Q: James Milner… is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which – if any – of their players would you want in exchange?

I would like to think he’s going to stay, I’d like him to as I think we need to keep our best players to stay in the race for 4th. But if he was to leave I’d hold out for at least 30-35m as in that case we either get to keep him or get a very useful amount of money. Players I’d take from Man City are Ireland, Richards, Hart and Bellamy. I’d quite like us to bid for Ireland even if Milner stays.

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?

We need a striker obviously, I wouldn’t say no to Robbie Keane as long as its a reasonable price (8m, 10 at a push). But a bit of foreign flair might prove to be the way forward, Falcao would be a very interested signing, he’s a good player and scores goals. I think we also need a Right-back, Micah Richards would be good, Young, English and a Brummie! As I said in the last, Stephen Ireland and also Yossi Benayoun would be nice.

Q: Where do you stand on Martin O’Neill (I don’t mean literally, that would be assault) ?

I like MON, I don’t think we’d find a better manager if we were to get rid of him. He’s really taken the club forward in recent years. Although the whole Rotation thing (or lack of it) and sometimes his transfer market dealings can get a little frustrating, but he has signed some gems in his time.

Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?

Very good, they seem to be right behind the team and always make a good amount of money available for players.

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

Currently I’d say James Milner.
Since I’ve been a Villa fan some of my favourite players have been Angel, Mellberg, Barry and I always loved Hitzlesperger.

Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

it’ll be difficult with Man City’s money and Spurs Champions League football, we’ll have to make some smart signings in the summer but it’s possible.

Q: Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

I’d have to go with Marina Diamandis (Marina & the Diamonds), Half Welsh/Half Greek seems to be a good combination.
And to thump I’ll go with Liam Gallagher.
