Vital Villa Summer Interview: Cheshire Villan

Cheshire Villan steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.

Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?

I am half Scottish and half Brummie but born in Brum. All that side of the family are Villa supporters (apart from my cousin who shall remain nameless but you all know him for that t-shirt!). So it was pretty well a family thing apart from a brief flirtation with ManUre when they won the European Cup in 1968. I started going regulalry in 1969 – age 11 on my own and walked 4 miles to the ground!

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

Overall good. There are some obvious weaknesses that can be fixed and two or three fewer draws would have seen us in the Champions League.

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

Worst moment was the opener against Wigan. I thought we were woeful and feared for the season. Best moment for me was the win at Old Trafford.

Q: James Milner… is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which – if any – of their players would you want in exchange?

If somebody offered to double my salary I’d be off like a shot! If somebody is prepared to pay then I can’t see him staying.

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?

I’ll just repeat what everybody else has said- a creative midfielder, a bit more steel in midfield and a regular goalscorer. Who? God knows!

Q: Where do you stand on Martin O’Neill (I don’t mean literally, that would be assault) ?

I generally like him but I do wish that he would play a different style game at home.

Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?

Don’t think that we could ask for better. Villa Park is one impressive place these days and we just need a side to fulfill the potential.

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

As an ex-defender (works league level so not great!) I’d go for Dunne.

All time – God, Little, Gray, Cowans, Mortimer and Keth Leonard (cos he was my mate!).

Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

I think we are punchig our weight at the moment and I can’t see that we have the funds to improve dramatically. Having said that I’d like to see some of the up and coming talent given a chance. You never know they might be a revelation!

Q: Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

There are too many celebs that I would like to thump. The whole celeb culture leaves me cold.

But having said that if she asked me ever so nicely I would find space in my busy schedule to entrtain Julia Roberts – it’s the smile.
