Vital Villa Summer Interview: MASON_PARKER

MASON_PARKER steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.

Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?

1976 at school… I wasn’t interested in football at all but said that I supported Liverpool coz everyone else seemed to. Then Villa beat Liverpool 5-1…and I though to myself..’Hang on…i’m supporting the wrong team here’….and so it began !

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

It was not bad, but ultimately a little disappointing, we just dont seem to be able to make that step up to Champions league standard…I think we need to get a little bit more of a continental flavour to the team…

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

Obviously winning at United….I’ve been to very few away games, but I was at Old Trafford in 1983 when we beat them last time…my mate was at manchester university and got a couple of tickets…had to hide our Villa scarves on the bus back to his house…packed with Man U fans all looking like they wanted blood…scary !
Worst…..it’s the 7-1 game innit ?

Q: James Milner… is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which – if any – of their players would you want in exchange?

It would be a shame to lose Milner….but he’s only one player, and if we got £30 million…that would be great as long as it’s spent on the team. We’ve lost great players before and coped well…I seem to remember losing Gray and Gidman….and then not long after we were champions…let him go if he wants…

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?

We need a more creative midfielder…one that give that defence-splitting pass….and we need strikers….sorry but Heskey is not of the required standard, and i’m beginning to doubt Carew and Agbonlahor too.

We need ‘world class’ players…not second hand used dross…I know…easier said than done.

Q: Where do you stand on Martin O’Neill (I don’t mean literally, that would be assault) ?

I like O’Neill…he’s made a difference to the club that’s for sure, but like us all, he has his faults … wont substitute….wont rotate….notoriously slow in the transfer market….and then there’s that long term problem of playing players out of position…..Luke Young was a great right back….I can’t see what O’Neill’s problem is here….

Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?

You can’t really fault Randy so far…invested money..steadied the ship….improved the team….but we need more if we are ever going to compete with the big guns. Lets face it…..anyone’s better than Ellis.

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

Fave player at the mo….James Collins….Under rated, gets stuck in, and has no shortage of ability….solid.
Fave player of all time…Gary Shaw….intelligent use of the ball, good goal poacher….and all the girls fancied him…what more do you want….McGrath was class….Brian Little, Mortimer, Tony Morley..and I quite Liked Savo….

Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

Nope ! I just dont think O’Neill is adventurous enough in the transfer market…I dont think we’ll sign anyone of real note. We’ll take the Milner money and sign 3 average British players i’m afraid. I’m guessing 8th next season and no cups. Sorry !

Q: Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Bang :- Actress Eva Mendes….truly beautiful and seemingly nice with it…
Thump :- Jeremy Kyle..what a T**t !
