Dannyvellow takes the Vital Villan interview.

dannyvellow is next up in the Vital Villan interviews. We have another eight lined up and ready!

Don’t forget you can see all the interviews by Clicking Here or going to the drop down ‘club menu’ at the top of the site.

1 – How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

Since the mid / late 70’s. My Father and Uncle used to travel on the bus(s) over to B6 in the 50’s from Halesowen, so I guess they should have been Baggies fans. I remember them saying Villa were a more glamorous attraction – too true! All three of my Father’s sons became Villa fans.

2 – What was your first game?

Home to Crystal Palace. Maybe 1979. Maybe we won 2-0 or 2-1. I DO remember a young Gary Shaw scoring and the fans shouting ‘You’re a carthorse Francis’! At Gerry Fransis. Funny what you remember and what you don’t

3 – What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

My Uncle’s reaction after the game at Highbury when we knew the title was ours. He didn’t say very much……..Didn’t want to give himself away I think, but I remember that tell tale thickness in his voice. Understandable. A fan all his life and the first time we were Champions

4 – And the worst moment?

Andy Gray leaving. I was sad and angry. I got a (rightful) bollxxking from my Dad for blurting out ‘I hope he breaks his leg’.

5 – Who are your favourite current Villa players?

Ashley Young. Got everything to become world class.

6 – Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

After Gray left, a youngster called Gary Shaw stepped into his boots. A near contemporary of Lineker, he could have been better viewed through my Claret and blue tinted specs. A sad waste through injury but a special couple of year from him.

7 – Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

Dalian sicknote Atkinson. Worst means to me not your ability but attitude. Saw him getting caught offside too many times jogging back with a belly full of pies.

8 – What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

I will combine the 2. Mortimer bursting through the middle of Liverpool’s defence and slotting home in the 2-0 win at Villa park in the 80/81 season.

9 – Best away ground visited?

Highbury through association

10 – Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?

A play maker is needed if we are to play the passing game as we should. Arshavin would be good, but we need some good squad pros and to encourage a very promising crop of youngsters into the first team squad.

11 – What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League
League Champions! sorry, but I feel it in my bones.
b) Europe Semi final

c) Carling Cup

d) Fa Cup Fa Cup Man U third round

12 – What is your opinion of Martin O’Neill?

As good as there is at the moment. Learning from Cloughie has to be a bonus. He is not necessarily better than Atkinson, Taylor or Little (he who walks on water) who took us reasonably close but they had Eliis to back them up……..MON has Randy. Hence my prediction for 11a)

13 – What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

From all indications – The man! Sports fan, Villa fan & nothing better to spend his money on.

14 – Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

I am not a season ticket holder. I choose the Holte end but recent visits have been with my daughter and friends with kids, so the family enclosure.

15 – And finally (stolen without shame from Vital Arsenal!) if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a ‘bang’ ;o)

Saunders, Randy, MON and Tony Morley. Can I slip in Naomi Campbell. She has had a rough time lately and could do with a good night out.

Thanks!

With thanks to dannyvellow
