villarich is next up for our Vital Villan Interviews:

1 – How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

I have supported Villa since I was 5, so 36 years…

2 – What was your first game?

Villa v Spurs, but can’t remember the exact year as it was so long ago now, but it was sometime in the late 70’s

3 – What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

Dennis Mortimer lifting the Europen Cup in 1982, crowning Villa as the ‘Kings of Europe’.

4 – And the worst moment?

Ron Saunders leaving Villa in 1982 and also Villa losing the FA Cup final in 2000, we were dreadful. I remember leaving Wembley and travelling home totally gutted, it took me a good 6 months to get over the disappointment of losing that game.

5 – Who are your favourite current Villa players?

Martin Laursen, Ashley Young, NRC and Gabby

6 – Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

Tony Morley, Dennis Mortimer, Gordon Cowans, Colin Gibson, in fact the entire squad who won the League Championship in 1980/81 and the European Cup and Super Cup in 1982…They were awesome, the best Villa team I’ve ever seen. And last but not least the ‘Legend’ who is Paul McGrath.

7 – Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

Gosh there have been a few over the years…Sasa Surcic, Stan Collymore, Milan Baros…I’ll leave it at that I think

8 – What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

Peter Withe 1982 European Cup Final , (coz it won us the cup), its also my favourite game.

9 – Best away ground visited?

White Hart Lane (and its not great)

10 – Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?

Steve Sidwell
David Bentley
Thierry Henry
Wesley Sneijder
Justin Hoyte
Brad Guzan
Artur Boruc
Pascal Chimbonda
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Arshavin
Niko Kovac

11 – What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League
5th
b) Europe 1/4 final of Uefa Cup
c) Carling Cup Winners
d) Fa Cup 1/4 finals

12 – What is your opinion of Martin O’Neill?

Martin O’Neill is a great manager, I want him to stay in charge at Villa Park for the next 20 years.

13 – What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

Aston Villa was a football club on its knees under Doug Ellis and David ‘dare a great bunch a lads’ O’Dreary, since Randy Lerner has taken over, the transformation both on and off the pitch has been nothing short of fantastic. My faith has been restored and I am once again proud to be an Aston Villa supporter.

14 – Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

Absolutely I am a season ticket holder at Villa Park…I sit in the Doug Ellis Lower stand towards the Holte End

15 – And finally (stolen without shame from Vital Arsenal!) if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a ‘bang’ ;o)

Tony Morley, Martin O’Neill, Randy Lerner and Paul McGrath. Top totty would have to be Jennifer Aniston.

Up the Villa!!!

  • BAros scored 2 against the blues in my books that makes him a legend (for one game!)

  • Re; Favourite Goal.

Withe’s goal v Bayern in the Final was significant but every time I watch the replays I still think he’s going to miss it and then I jump up and down when it goes in off the far post 🙂

  • its my favourite goal too. even though it was off his shin and off the post it was magic. still gives me a lump in my throat when i see it on dvd. Jennifer Aniston- nice.

  • Hey!!! “Return of Godzvilla”??? I haven’t been anywhere!! Where do I lodge a naming objection? :o)

  • Good positive responses villarich. Interesting read. Spot on about the club being well and truly ‘on its kness’ under Ellis/O’Leary. Dark days indeed.

  • Ron Saunders leaving and ending up at St Andrews. Yes, a bad, bad memory indeed. His first game in charge of the Blues was against us – and we won 1-0 at The Sty.
