lee9679 takes the Vital Villan mid season interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?
In the womb – apparently my Dad had purchased my first ever Villa strip before I was born and so I never really had any choice in the matter, which is something I couldn’t be happier about! My middle name is Andrew, solely because a certain Mr Andy Gray was leading our forward line at the time I was born.

2) What do you think of this season, do we have the chance to push on or will we slip up like last season?

After last season I am nervous about what the second half of this year will bring. I’d like to think that we will have learnt from the experience of last year, but with the improvements made by both Manchester City and Tottenham this year it will obviously be a lot more difficult this time around. It’s a challenge, and I just hope we rise to that challenge and push into the top four.

3) Best moment/s of this season so far?

Anything to do with Brad Guzan and penalties – the performance at Sunderland was unbelievable and ever since then I have maintained a vision of Petrov lifting a trophy some time in February….

4) Worst moment/moments of this season so far?

The opening day defeat to Wigan, and the stick in the throat travesty which was Fernando Torres’ winner. I would also have said being knocked out of the Europa League by Rapid Vienna, but I can’t help think that may have benefitted our Carling Cup run and I would prefer domestic success at the moment, rather than European.

5) Do you expect any arrivals this January (bearing in mind MON has indicated not) and IF you could bring in a player or two, who (realistically) would you go for?

I don’t expect any arrivals, just potential departures of the likes of Harewood and Shorey. If I could bring in a player or two, I would suggest a creative central midfielder (a Fabregas type, although I know we’d have no chance of getting him, but someone like him would be good!) and a goal-poacher. I always feel that our strikers spend too much time out wide or coming deep, and I’d love to see us with a real fox in the box – why we’ve never gone for Jermain Defoe I don’t understand.

6) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer? And do you think Villa will spend enough this summer to progress?

We simply have to spend money to progress – Everton have shown what happens by failing to improve the squad and relying on too few players. The creative midfielder mentioned above would be the priority, with the goal poacher, and then I would be looking at a new goalkeeper given Friedel’s age and concerning reluctance to come off his line.

7) If we made the Carling Cup final, who would you most like to face Manchester United or Manchester City?

I think we’d have a better chance against United, but the chance of putting one over Gareth Barry in a domestic final makes me plump for City.

8) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier League: 5th
FA Cup: Semi-Finals
Carling Cup: Winners

9) Your opinion on Martin O’Neill now he is mid way through his 4th season in charge?

God – when you compare him to David O’Leary he has taken us much further than I thought he ever would. My only concern is his reluctance to use substitutions, although this must surely be down to lack of faith in the players on the bench??

10) Your opinion on Randy Lerner and his board?

Superb, the manager has got all the support he (and we) could have ever asked for, and they genuinely seem to listen to the fans and what to act in our best interests at all times. Some fans are so fickle that whatever they do won’t be good enough, and that’s football, but I have no complaints.

11) Favourite current player?

James Milner.

12) Favourite former player/s?

Paul McGrath / Martin Laursen

13) Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Ola Jordan from Strictly would get my vote, and I would quite happily give Harry Redknapp a smack in the chops!!
