With three mainstays of last season’s starting eleven heading out the exit door, there is concern that they won’t be adequately replaced.

John Terry, Robert Snodgrass and Sam Johnstone will either not be returning, or are very unlikely to be at the club next season. Their influence both on and off the field will be sorely missed.

Fans on Twitter have had a lengthy debate over who should replace these senior players:

Verdict:

At the moment, there are a fair few questions to answer even before we even consider who we will be signing. Will Steve Bruce still be in charge? Who can we afford to keep and who will have to be sold?

Certainly, the positions vacated by the likes of Terry will need to be filled, but these could very well be taken up by loan players or youngsters. Some inspired bargain signings and excellent recruitment is needed to navigate through this difficult summer and we’ll just have to wait and see if the right decisions are made.

  • For me GK and CB are the 2 biggest priorities. I dont particularly rate either Steer or Bunn, they’re both back up keepers at best for me. Bedeau has potential but still only 18, may get bullied by bigger forwards. My worry with Suliman is that he couldn’t get a game in a poor Grimsby team while on loan up there this season. Winger I’m not so worried about – Green, O’Hare, RHM, Blackett-Taylor could all be given a go out wide – its time to find out which ones will make it and which ones wont. I’m guessing we will be using the loan market for the GK and CB positions, Bruce will probably use his relationship with Man U to get 1 or 2 of theirs in.

  • Bruce, has already spoken to Leeds, and is on his way out, which will save the academy kids
he totally bypassed . What ever club this Dinasour goes too it will be the same strategy. You
will now see Xia learn the harsh lesson to never venture, down Learner avenue again. AVFC
will come back with loyal players and fans as always. Reality with a Nuno or Joka type football
on a strict budget will see the ashes begin a new Resurection. UTV.

  • Bruce’s time at villa is over. We are rock bottom. Plant the right seed from now and dividends will pay. We need Wenger. Give him free rule. Get rid of wyness too. Wolves owners put in place top people. We got mediocre British dinasours.

  • I don’t profess to know enough about FFP. But let’s try and remain positive. If Grealish has to go so be it. If we can also move some of the loan players and players who have not and probably will not feature in the first team next season, Mcormack, Richards, Gardiner, De Laet, Gollini, Gill, Thishbola, and possibly Taylor and Lansbury, together with Terry, Samba and Agnonlahor who have already gone. Those transactions alone could save between 300 and 400 thousand a week in wages plus a return sale price of possibly 60million if the media is to be believed with Jacks price. Let me say at this stage I don’t want to see him or some of the others leave, but squads do move on. Terry a great player, but possibly one injury away from retirement, would he be able to give another full season anyway. Invest some of the return on Snodgrass, Grabban and Johnstone including wages, promote some of the academy, Lyden, Suliman, Beddau, O’hare, RHB etc. Keep Hutton effectively a free transfer on a lower wage, try and negotiate the contracts of some of the older players, eg. Jedinak and Whelan, perhaps contract extensions on lower salaries? ( just a thought) This squad is almost the same as last season with the exception of Terry and Grealish who both incidentally missed a third of the season through injury anyway. A couple of experienced free transfers, amd let’s face it, Steve Bruce is the man for that. Me, for one would be very exited going into the new season, with Bruce and that squad. Just a thought my fellow supporters” VTID

  • Quite easy to replace Snoddy , just play Albert back on the right where he is more comfortable.
Green comes in on the left where he was shining before he lost his place to injury.
Big Championship CB’s are 10 a penney as are Championship keepers , I think Jed Steer may even step up with Sarkic as his understudy or Visa versa

We still have a huge squad , a bit short on Centre backs who are hard enough but as I say they are 10 a penny .
