Will MON Look To Sell Heskey This Summer?

Emile Heskey had an incredible start to his Aston Villa career; scoring on his debut against Portsmouth at Fratton Park to earn a 1-0 win for Villa. However, since then, his dream start has completely fallen from the heavens to the claret and blue bench.

In 51 appearances he has scored just 7 goals in his time with Aston Villa. Martin O’Neill has not been impressed with frontman Heskey this season frustrated at the shortage of goals and shots from the forward, also revealing he was concerned that Heskey’s injuries were denying him from producing his best form.

Heskey has failed to impress the Villa Park faithful in his short time at the club, but with Agbonlahor and Carew being our top scorers and first just choice strike pair again this season, it is clear to see that Heskey is now 3rd choice striker with Delfouneso so nearly edging ahead of Heskey in the pecking order in recent weeks.

Martin O’Neill showed his true evaluation of Heskey at Wembley last night when he came on as an 82nd minute substitution for Carew with the score only being at 1-0. With Villa behind to a 68th minute Didier Drogba goal, why didn’t O’Neill bring Heskey on before the 82nd minute when we only needed 1 goal to equalise?

Surely a clear sign the Martin feels Heskey was not good enough to find us a goal. (Carew actually seemed in discomfort when leaving the pitch so it may well have been a forced substitution). Surely this is the sign that Heskey will be sold on this summer now that MON prefers a tired and battered John Carew to a fresh Emile Heskey to find a goal in the closing stages of the FA Cup Semi-Final.

Heskey was signed from Wigan in the final year of his contract for what seemed to be a snip at £3.5M for an England international.

However with Heskey’s World Cup place with England in question and out of favour with Villa, surely Martin O’Neill will look to cut his losses in the summer. With a potential wide range of interest from lower Premier League opposition in need of a big target man next season it would not be a surprise to see Emile sold and the extra funds contributing to the signing of a brand new star striker that we are crying out for.

With 2 years left on his current contract and John Carew and Gabby being prepared contract extensions, surely Heskey will be shipped out. We may even make a small profit on what we paid for him, but I think the signs are there to see that Heskey’s first full Aston Villa season could also quiet possibly be his last.
