Deanovilla has started a thread in 100% Vital: Worried about the attendance? Don’t be following our 15 391 attendance last night in the Capital One Cup v Tranmere Rovers.

Deano says:

There were 6,000 at QPR last night.

There were 9,000 at Stoke.

There were 9,000 at Swansea.

There were 18,000 at West Ham.

Time to face facts that this competition has become a complete joke and a waste of time. I can’t see it last much longer in it’s current format. Maybe to the end of the current sponsorship deal.

The only time this comp gets anyone interested is when it gets to the semi-final stage.

A couple of comments in the match stats article comments last night:

15,000…..gulp
eltoro

I’ve been in a crowd of 8000 at vp for a div1 game in 85..15000 is nothing.

I find it interesting the number of people who commented on the low gate and who have raised their concerns, but who didn’t go themselves. The hypocrisy stinks. It was a fiver for kids at Villa Park under the floodlights. If we were playing Barcelona at £45 a ticket the place would have been full to the rafters. So money isn’t the issue. It is the desire. I understand all those who can’t go due to location, work etc. A brilliant well done to those who made the effort. But it is very simple. You do cheap seats, fill the ground, more good players want to come to Villa to play in front of an appreciative audience and we improve. Ask your self the question. If you didn’t attend last night, would you have if we were playing Barcelona?? If the answer is yes then please do not be offended if your support is called part time or you are labeled as a glory hunter. The most passionate of fans come to Villa Park regardless of the opposition. We go to see the Villa. Some fans are loyal and supportive. Unfortunately we need to improve the number of hard core support. We need to turn the part timers and glory hunters into fans who come all the time. Taking away the 1500 Tranmere fans last night, that means only 14,000 Villa fans turned up. It also means that thousands of fans who are season card holders failed to bother. Forgetting the ills of the world, forget making excuses. There are too many fans who simply can not be bothered, but who are happy to moan and whinge when things are not to their satisfaction. UTV. The 19th Minute.
