1 Shot, 1 Tackle & A Very Rounded Performance Sees Young Villa Talent Steal The Show For MotM

|

Monday night was Aston Villa’s big Premier League kick off for 2020/21 and the fixture computer pitted us against Hawkeye rivals Sheffield United.

It was a bright start from head coach Dean Smith’s side and even before they went down to ten men (and it could’ve been more) we were on top and controlling the game, but a lack of sharpness and composure looked for a period like it would be our undoing.

Ezri Konsa changed all that just after the hour mark and with United offering a strong defence, but absolutely no attack (that softest of penalties aside and Emi’s saving debut) we kept the clean sheet to come away with all three points.

It really should’ve been a 2-0 or 3-0 victory given the chances we had (which is an improvement on last season in itself given we didn’t capitulate in the final ten minutes) but that didn’t stop statistics website Whoscored from being very positive in their player ratings – but Konsa came out on top with a star man rating of 8.48.

Completing the top five best performers on the evening were Tyrone Mings (7.96), Emi Martinez (7.75), Matty Cash (7.06) and Jack (7.01).

We can certainly improve further, but positives to take alongside the three points and that’s all that matters.
