A few reports are doing the rounds putting two and two together and coming up with Villa.

I guess we’ll be linked with every decent player and every available player between now and the transfer window in January.

The latest one is a return to the Sheffield United link which has done the rounds several times over the last year or so.

Sheffield United’s chairman Kevin McCabe has re-stated that it would take a massive bid to tempt the Blades to sell Phil Jagielka.

24-year-old player, who covers both defence and midfield, lines up against Villa on Monday night but has been linked to us amongst others.

McCabe said of the player who still has 2 1/2 years left on his current contract: ‘It would have to be a very high price. Phil is one of our key players, we recognise that, and Sheffield United is not a selling club per se. But if the price was high enough, so high, we would have to think about it – but I think my eyes would have to water first.’

So a simple plan will be to send in the General to poke McCabe in the eyes, get his eyes watering then fax through the offer?

We’ve a thread in the forum on player links, at least this time around we know there is a chance of signing someone now what was his name has left as chairman!

  • the mirror have us linked to reocoker, darren bent, lucas neill and one more player….probably paper talk but bent would be perfect for us, strong, fast and can sure as hell finish, ditch baros and get him

  • Can’t see us selling Jag’s in January. Maybe end of season if things go badly. He’s already said he’s happy where he is.

  • He’s alright but not a top player. We should be looking at top players or players with the potential to be top players. Phil doesn’t fit into that category.

  • Could be worth a look, i would prefer players on the way up with something to prove than looking for the finished article.

  • Just papers putting us into any link to make a story I reckon, but hey, I can talk, I’m publishing it as well!!!!

  • I think we have been linked to Jagielka under about 4 different managers now. Isn’t it wierd how a club consistantly gets linked to a particular player.

  • In their current position, where in fairness they are lacking in genuine quality, it wouldn’t make sense to sell Phil Jagielka. I would suggest it would indicate a lack of ambition by the Blades powers that be.
