Aston Villa’s second leg Championship Play-Off Semi-Final trip to The Hawthorns on Tuesday evening to face West Bromwich Albion certainly turned out to be as tricky as most of us expected.

With a narrow first leg advantage, the Baggies tied the scores up and despite our dominance, we couldn’t find a way through. Penalties ultimately split us as Jed Steer channelled his inner Mark Bosnich to produce two fantastic stops from 12 yards, and Tammy Abraham took full advantage to send us to Wembley after Albert Adomah, unfortunately, channelled his own Chris Waddle.

Statistics website Whoscored were largely positive in their player ratings but I can only assume they didn’t include the penalty antics as Steer found himself down in ninth place.

Super John McGinn took our Man of the Match with a rating of 7.85, and completing the top five best performers on the evening were Jack Grealish (7.45), Anwar El Ghazi (7.24), Tyrone Mings (7.07) and Conor Hourihane (7.02).

Tammy was the other player to receive a seven-plus score.

Now we find out who joins us after last night’s action.
