There was plenty of hope that Aston Villa Academy graduate Jack Grealish would be passed fit for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Liverpool given head coach Dean Smith’s words on the 24-year-old following the victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and earlier today, we got the news we all wanted – and then some we didn’t.
Having hobbled off in the clash against Manchester City, it was confirmed that Grealish had taken a kick to his calf so he was obviously rested for the EFL Cup encounter, but speaking to the Official Site for his pre-game press conference, Smith stated that he was back in contention and had now returned to training.

Smith appeared to be somewhat coy about whether or not Jack would start – but that’s not even a question really is it?
In other injury news, whilst Keinan Davis is now ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury picked up in the Wolves game, Jota returns to training next Monday after recovering from his double hernia operation.
