“A Fully Fit Squad Except…” – Smith Gets Injury Boosts As Villa Prepare For City

|

With Aston Villa securing back to back victories in recent weeks to lift us into mid-table in the Premier League, this weekend sees us make the incredibly tough trip to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s boys won’t be easy to beat as their talent speaks for itself, but they are arguably not at their best and we continue to show improvements (however slight and slow), so whilst few will be thinking that we’ll return with all three points, I think most of us would take a gritty and organised performance to demonstrate further steps forward.

There’s certainly a boost on the injury front ahead of the game, as speaking to the Birmingham Mail on Thursday as he met with the press, head coach Dean Smith confirmed that James Chester, Jonathan Kodjia and Kortney Hause were all now available for the trip.

The only player we have out is Jota following the confirmation of his double hernia surgery.

“Jota had an operation two weeks ago. He’s not yet joined in training. The players who played for the U23s players (Hause, Kodjia and Chester) all got minutes under their belts so we’ve got a fully fit squad except Jota. There’s a possibility of them playing this weekend. It’s a three-game week with Wolves and then Liverpool, it’s a week where the squad will get tested.”

A difficult spell, we just need to come through it and having options available can only help us on that score.
