When Aston Villa added Louie Barry to our Academy ranks from a certain Barcelona, plenty of fans were delighted to see us effectively get another one over near neighbours West Bromwich Albion and although it seemed he couldn’t settle in Spain, he pretty quickly made an impact with us in our youth levels and a certain FA Cup goal against Liverpool showed everyone what he might be capable of in the future if his development progressed as we hoped.

It was hoped that he’d step nicely up to regular League One action when we loaned him out to Ipswich Town at the beginning of the 2021/22 season, but there’s no denying the spell was pretty much a nightmare for him (for a variety of reasons) and he returned to us in January having only made four starts and two substitute appearances.

Having been recalled, we sent the 18-year-old out to League Two and I doubt Swindon Town had been picked out of a hat given how well Kaine Kesler Hayden had done with them in the first half of the year. Since making the switch out, Barry has made two starts and two substitute appearances.

Now he’s found his feet, he was very impressive in their comfortable victory over Scunthorpe Town and things got even better for him as they took three points over Carlisle United last weekend as he bagged his maiden league goal.

Having had such a good impact in their last two games, Barry’s confidence should be sky high now, so fingers crossed this sort of form continues until the end of the campaign – he’s certainly winning their fans over.
