As Aston Villa fans continued adjusting to life under new head coach Dean Smith as he continues to take his small steps into life at the club following his appointment from Brentford the other day, it’s fair to say that optimism levels in the fan base have certainly spiked once again but there is a steady undercurrent of sense and keeping feet grounded.

There’s no doubt that Smith will be able to make his mark on the club and his more attacking ethos should certainly find flavour and success amongst the players we already have on our books, but the lack of balance in defence won’t be corrected overnight and even amongst even the more ‘dizzy’ responses from fans on social media and on Forums like our own, people are rightly not expecting changes overnight and they understand that our new direction, and probably much needed direction, is going to need time.

Will be a fantastic atmosphere but not expecting miracles after 1 week in the job. Players are away on international duty so will only train with Smith and co a couple of times. I'm expecting a slow transition to a more passing game. Something our players need to learn #avfc #utv

Enjoy the atmosphere, look for small improvements and welcome back hope – that’ll do for now surely.
