As Aston Villa fans will know, the draw for the fifth round of the EFL Cup took place this morning and our reward for taking a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday evening, was a clash against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side.
Not a great draw given their form this year, but that’s making the assumption they will even honour their obligations as there is already a threat to boycott the game as the expected fixture date will fall whilst they are out in Qatar at the pointless Club World Cup competition.
No doubt there will be a fudge on the fixture dates to suit them, but the draw itself certainly left plenty of Villa fans on social media in a mixed mood given the draws that other perceived favoured Premier League sides got – the threat to pull out was simply the icing on the cake.
Oxford United v Manchester City
Manchester United v Colchester United
Aston Villa v Liverpool
Everton v Leicester City
Joke draw.

We have this.. Liverpool will play under strength. Listen to Kloop he may even forfeit the game.. the cup doesn’t revolve around Liverpool, if they can’t make the date then that’s tough. Why should they be allowed special treatment!

Liverpool is about to forfeit anyways, so I’m happy with this draw

Strong chance we might get a bye or Liverpool will play a super weak side. #avfc
