Lambert Relishing Pre Season

Paul Lambert has said he is excited by the prospect of pre season at the Villa and he can’t wait for it to get going.

Speaking to the Official Site after the fixtures were announced yesterday, Lambert said he couldn’t wait for the season to kick off against West Ham, and now he just wants the lads back in so preparations can begin.

He also continued to wax lyrical about the fans and the opportunity that he has at Villa Park:

‘I’m absolutely over the moon I’m here. It’s an absolute privilege to be manager of this club with the amount of people that support it. I’ll do everything I can to make it really successful. It’s something I’m really looking forward to, it’s a massive challenge but we’ll give it a right good go.’

Sounds like he’s happy eh!

‘I’m excited by it, I really am. I can’t wait to get going. I’m looking forward to the team coming back. It’s new to me, it might take a few weeks to find out feet, but we’ll be ready for it.’

Music to everyones ears after the last few seasons isn’t it…and it doesn’t end there:

‘It’s vital we play the right way, but I don’t want to play the right way and get beat every single week. What we’ve tried to do is get the team winning, my job is to try to get the team to win, to make it play well.’

And onto the obligatory ‘biggin up the fans’ section of any good, rousing interview:

‘Most importantly we’ll need every supporter. There will be times when it will be hard and all that stuff, but stay with it and hopefully we’ll give you some really good times. We’ll do everything we can to try and make that happen. If we can get the stadium rocking it will be a really good place. The most important people at any football club are the people that come and watch it and the players. If I can get those two going off each other then hopefully we can have a right good season.’

Well what can I possibly add to that?

This is exactly what you want to hear from the manager. Happy, but realistic, not throwing out unattainable promises and predictions, but focusing on the key stuff.

Fortress Villa Park to return, players playing the game properly, entertainment, enjoyment whilst also realising they’ll be moments that will pee us all off in games, and losses that will leave ‘some’ of us tearing our hair out.

But even then, if we go for it, don’t curl up and die, and the players give their damnest I think Paul realises the majority will still be proud and behind them as long as they make the effort.

And let’s face it after the past few years, any sourness as the team find their feet under Lambert should only make the wins all that sweeter!
