Aston Villa moved into the top-six of the Championship after a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon and John McGinn was lauded by some supporters for his performance. The 24-year-old has impressed since returning from suspension and continued his fine run of form at Villa Park over the weekend.
Superb performance from the boys today. Boro played exactly as a Pulis team plays, time wasting from the first minute.
MOTM almost impossible to pick.
Mings – Immense✅
McGinn – Incredible✅
Whelan – Everywhere ✅
Grealish – Commanding✅
Hause – Rock solid✅#AVFC #UTV— ⚽️𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘴𝘊𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩 ①⑧⑦④ 🎸 (@TheTremontiPick) March 16, 2019
John McGinn has been a revelation since joining us. Never seen a player so comfortable with the ball. Glides past players with ease and has such a deadly left foot. Don't think he will be short of offers in the summer #avfc

A great team performance today, McGinn had his best game for the club today and that’s saying something. Special mention for Whelan who was superb too #avfc

Whelan or McGinn both outstanding but MOTM for me today was Mings makes defending look easy I'll miss him when he's gone #avfc

What a week for McGinn, changed the game at Blues, close to a hattrick at Forest and a goal & assist against Boro. #avfc

#McGinn – Where do you start with this lad, what a signing 👌 What did we pay 2.5m ? 😱 Crimewatch stuff, makes a bloody change for us mind to bag a bargain, god knows what he's worth now & I can only see the lad getting better & better. #avfc pic.twitter.com/aABkNgi186

John McGinn's performance in this half has to be the best 45 minutes I've seen from any #avfc player this season. Absolutely incredible.

Hes just a class above, this bloke was our best player for most of the last 14 games gets a 2 game suspension comes back and demands his place back with performances like this, how can you leave this machine out

Against Boro, McGinn made 80 touches, 50 passes with 90% accuracy, two chances, three dribbles, four shots, two tackles, one interception, three clearances and whipped in three crosses over the 90 minutes. He assisted Anwar El Ghazi for Villa’s opener in the 28th minute and scored their second goal of the game before half-time.
The Scottish international has made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands outfit since his move from Hibernian last summer, scoring and creating 13 goals. McGinn has created 58 chances, made 56 successful dribbles (86%) and has averaged a tackle (73) and interception (32) every 27 minutes.
He’s been a fantastic signing and has returned from suspension in better form than before his two-match ban. McGinn has contributed four goal in two league games and helped Villa move into the playoffs with eight games of the season remaining. The Claret and Blues are sixth with 57 points from 38 games, boasting four consecutive wins.
