Having made the move out to Stoke City on loan in January for game time in the second half of the campaign, late yesterday evening Aston Villa confirmed that former skipper James Chester had now completed a permanent switch to the Bet365 Stadium.

With 126 appearances to his name in our shirt, Chezzie became a firm fan favourite with his performances, especially as he played through the pain barrier in the first half of our promotion winning season and put himself in the position of now having to ‘manage’ his knee for the remainder of his career.

We may not have known it at the time but his last Villa Park appearance was against Liverpool in December, with his final outing coming against Fulham in the FA Cup.
There can’t be many who don’t wish him the very best of luck and he’s a face that will always be welcome back judging by the messages fans and other players have sent him on social media.
Summed up perfectly here mate, put his body on the line when we had no defence and was struggling, we shall not forget👍

James Chester put his body through pain just to help us when we needed him the most. Won’t forgot Grealish asking Chester to lift the trophy with him. Has to go down as a Villa hero and a definite fan favourite! All the best Chester! 👏🏽 #AVFC

James Chester departs Villa as one all fans will look back fondly at.
Played for the shirt throughout his time at Villa Park and put his career at jeopardy when the team needed him most too.

All Aston Villa supporters will remember what James Chester did for the club. Playing through injury to the detriment of himself to help the cause. What a leader, what a player. All the best Chezzie 👏👏 #avfc

I've got nothing but respect for James Chester. A great player and Captain for Villa during difficult times on & off the pitch. He gave everything for the club and played an important role in promotion. Sad to see him go but wish him all the best. #AVFC pic.twitter.com/jUysuVswKB
