Despite our own relative struggles in the 2021/22 Premier League campaign under both Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard, former Nottingham Forest right back Matty Cash continues to go from strength to strength and on the back of a year that has seen him work his way into the Poland international squad, on Monday evening, the 24-year-old signed a new five year deal at the club.
Aston Villa is delighted to announce @MattyCash622 has signed a contract extension with the club! ✍️

Having made the switch across the Midlands back in September 2020, Cash has picked up three goals and six assists across his 60 games so far and he called the new deal proof that his career has taken ‘another step in the right direction’.
Speaking to the Official Site as the new contract was announced, Cash said.
“I’m delighted. It’s another proud day for me and my family. It’s another step in the right direction, and I just want to keep progressing every day, working hard and getting better. A big thanks to the club for rewarding me with a new contract, I can’t thank them enough.”
Delighted to extend my stay here at Aston Villa for another 5 years. Loving my time here and can’t wait to continue this exciting journey. Thanks to gaffa and everyone at the club for giving me this opportunity and especially to you fans for the continued support 💜💜 UTV pic.twitter.com/pVh0TV8sCN

Although there are elements of Matty’s game that he should be looking to improve upon, he has largely established himself as a fan favourite, and news of his new long term deal went over well with the fans.

Can’t think of a villa player that deserves this more. Absolutely delighted he’s decided to stay with us. Make no mistake about it, Matty would have had a lot of good options in the summer.

This is absolutely fantastic news. Nobody can question the ambitions of this football club. Thought between cash and Ramsey – but cash is my player if the year so far.

@Ceri_Morton @AVFCOfficial I actually couldn’t bring myself to tell Olivia that @mattycash622 is staying, because it too close to bed time. She won’t sleep for bouncing around and singing if I tell her now. This is totally news for mornings, not nighty times!
