A short time ago this evening, Aston Villa confirmed the arrival of Genk striker Mbwana Samatta.

The deal had been in the pipeline for a while and most fans hoped the 27-year-old Tanzania international skipper would be announced this week and in time for our clash on Tuesday against Watford, but given he hasn’t yet got his work permit, he won’t figure in that one. He will be available for our next clash though I’d have thought, which is a bonus.

With 56 international caps and having worn the armband for club and country, he comes in with a decent record in front of goal and we know he found the net against Liverpool in this year’s Champions League campaign, so hopes are high and we do really need him to hit the ground running for reasons I don’t really need to explain.

Cross fingers, cross everything in fact and welcome to the club!

Speaking to the Official Site, head coach Dean Smith said of his arrival.

“I’m really pleased we have managed to bring Mbwana to the club. He has scored goals throughout his career and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Okay, who next?
