Many Aston Villa fans already think we got the better end of the deal when we effectively swapped Gary Gardner for Birmingham City midfielder Jota, and it was revealed this week that our summer signing had been playing for over the last 12 months with a double hernia problem.
His wife revealed the news on social media, and it certainly raises an eyebrow given his game time across the City last season and the fact he’s made seven appearances for us so far this campaign.
The Birmingham Mail carry a translation of her Instagram post for those that are interested.
Over the weekend, a photo came out showing him in a hospital bed, and he will naturally be out for a few weeks as he recovers, so it should certainly be considered a good use of the October international break and having now had the surgery, it should also give him a break!
As you can imagine, Villa fans love a player who goes through the pain barrier to do what he can, so reaction on social media was pretty predictable.
