Earlier this month, Aston Villa were being linked with a move for Isaac Hayden, with the 23-year-old keen to move on from Newcastle to be closer to his family in Cardiff. A switch to the Midlands would be acceptable to Hayden which could be music to the ears of Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion.

Dean Smith has already strengthened at the back with the signings of goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic and defender Kortney Hause, in addition to recalling Tommy Elphick from his loan spell at Hull City, but the Villans are expected to spend more in January. They could look to bolster the midfield next and Hayden could present them value for money.

The 23-year-old can play in defence and midfield so he can provide cover in a number of roles. He has a lot of Premier League experience too, having made 35 appearances in the top-flight with Newcastle. He’s played in the Championship for Hull City and could be a good addition to the Villa ranks. Whether an official approach follows remains to be seen, however.

West Brom’s interest might also prove a stumbling block.
