Proud to be a villain

I have read with amazement over the past few weeks about other Villans and how they started to support the club (See the interview series: Click Here ). My was the first time I saw trinity road and watched the villa beat Blackburn in the FA cup 3rd round with Birch and Platty scoring, I think Spink saved a Stapleton penalty too in front of the north stand if I remember rightly ( I was only 6 or 7 at the time).

I enjoy reading these stories with pride to see so many people fall in love with this mighty club and follow them through thick and thin. I suppose like many other people, disappointed isn’t the word for the Gareth Barry incident. I thought ‘keep your dignity Gaz and you’ll be applauded every time you run onto our famous pitch, we all understand he wants champions league football but the way he went about it leaves a bitter taste

Anyway, enough about that, I would like to comment on Nigel Reo-Coker’s comment about how proud he is to play for villa and Martin O’Neill.

Its quite refreshing in this day and age of football to hear that. Loyalty. Martin Laursen and John Carew have also come out and said how much they love the club, Olof Mellberg as he left also passed comment and the amount of enjoyable years he’s spent at Villa Park. Now the arrival of Steve Sidwell from Chelsea and how much M’ON has got him looking forward to playing for Villa.

That’s what we need. People wanting to play for us, to enjoy their football which it seems most of the players do (except Shaun Maloney)

I cant wait for the new season, I am sure all of you can’t too.

Thanks for the ramble
