Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore may not be everyone’s cup of tea following the end to his playing days and the transition towards what can only be described as an outspoken pundit in the modern media, and I often find myself shaking my head as much as I actually agree with him – but he got this one spot on.
Taking to social media over the weekend as he tends to do, he was discussing Manchester City’s chase for a potential quadruple in the campaign of 2018/19 and whilst acknowledging it would be an incredible achievement – or as he put it a ‘fantastic achievement’ it did have to be caveated by the current accusations carried in the German press that are now being investigated by the authorities.
Maybe I’ve missed something when it comes to context, but for some reason a Rangers fan went off on a tangent.
If anyone abroad had heard of Aston Villa I'm sure they'd get investment too. ????

There are many things wrong with that comment, as plenty of others were happy to point out. Even Championship football is well carried abroad now with the broadcast deals in place, and yes, there is the small matter of serial billionaires Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens taking us over only last summer – but maybe the fan in question lives in a poor wifi area?
In fairness to the chap, he did acknowledge that to his credit, so he was just fishing for a bite and he certainly got one, but maybe not how he intended.
Good points well made, Lee.

Collymore’s response was bang on the money though.
Well we're still England's 5th most successful team ( City will overtake us this season), but it's taken Ferguson's miracle 26 years + 2 clubs that have spent several billion to overtake us.
3 remarkable and unprecedented events in English football.
Oh, and we have a ⭐️

This was one of those times I was left smiling.
