With just under a fortnight left in the loan transfer window for this summer, Aston Villa’s Ross McCormack is now being linked with a loan move north of the border to Rangers.

The report seems to have emanated from TeamTalk so you can make of that what you will, but the claim is having looked at paying him off to release his from his contract, we are now instead prepared to kick him out on loan for the remainder of the season but the crux is we’ll have to support that majority of his reported £40,000 a week contract.

Apparently, the payoff is problematic owing to an instalment or two we are yet to owe Fulham, although for myself I’m not sure that would be that problematic as it can’t be the first time a contract has been torn up whilst sums were still owed.

Clearly, he’s not coming back into manager Steve Bruce’s plans after previous fallouts and ‘gate-gate’ so at this stage making a saving on his wage simply ticks the ‘better than nothing’ option with him not coming into game plans.

Reactions amongst Villa fans to the news was mixed.

Reaction amongst Rangers fans themselves was possibly more interesting.

Seems they’re as torn as us on the deal, even if they would be getting him almost on a free.
