With Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith confirming our injury situation ahead of this weekend’s clash with Norwich, plenty of fans were delighted to see that Jonathan Kodjia and Matt Targett were in contention for this one.

Kodjia, mask included, should be a decent option up top for something different given Wesley is still adjusting, but after impressing recently, fans are delighted to see that Targett is back in training after yet another injury knock in the last match.

With plenty presuming that Targett will now keep his place for our trip to Carrow Road, Smith has spoken about his decision to drop Neil Taylor. Speaking to the clubs’ Official Youtube channel as build-up for the game began, Smith described the decision to drop the Welsh international as being ‘harsh’ but he felt Targett had deserved the spot given his efforts in training.
“His performance against Brighton pushed me into putting him in. I thought that was very harsh on Neil Taylor, and I told him that when I left him out. I thought defensively the team has done well, and Taylor has been part of that back four. But I thought in Targett’s performance I saw reasons why we went and spent the money we did for him. He was very good on the football and in the final third.”
With Taylor’s defensive displays not being a problem for many, he definitely splits fans when it comes to his attacking intent, and that is, of course, Targett’s strength really. With a slow start to life at Villa, hopefully, the 24-year-old has now turned the corner.
